Scouts of Ukraine implement numerous initiatives aimed at supporting society during these challenging times. We carry out projects in social, humanitarian, and educational fields, helping children, youth, and communities adapt to new challenges. Through collaboration with partners, we provide assistance, develop Scout groups, and create a safe space for growth and self-realisation.

“Ready for Life” Scout youth space in Pervomaisk

This is a large project to build youth infrastructure in Pervomaisk (Mykolaiv region). Its goal is to create a modern Scout youth centre: a place for Scout groups, training for Scout-leaders and events for young people in the community. The centre will give children and teenagers a safe place to grow, meet others and reach their potential, and it will become the base for growing the Scout Movement in the region. The project is supported by the NGO “Southern Development Strategy” in partnership with Save the Children in Ukraine, with funding from Danida, the Embassy of Denmark in Ukraine.

Youth forum “Circle of Strength: Young Leaders Unite Communities”

This is a national forum for adults in Scouting (18+). It is a space to meet, recharge, share experience and grow as leaders. Over three days, participants from different regions will get to know each other, take part in joint activities, practices and themed talks, and discuss topics that matter to them and their communities. Taking part in the forum is free. The project is supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Youth Foundation.

Advanced safeguarding course

This is a four-day training course for Scout-leaders, volunteers and youth workers on a comprehensive approach to keeping children and young people safe. The programme covers physical, psychological, social and digital safety, as well as practical steps for responding to crises, recognising violence and non-violent communication. Participants will also make their own plans for changes in their organisations and will get further support. Taking part is free: travel, accommodation and meals are covered by the organisers. The project is supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Youth Foundation.

“Nadiia” international camp project

The “Nadiia” international camp project is run together with the Transatlantic Council of Scouting America, with support from the World Scout Foundation. It is an annual summer camp for Ukrainian children who stayed in Ukraine and live in wartime conditions. The camp gives them a place to rest from everyday stress, feel like children again and find new friends. Through Scout games, outdoor activities and teamwork, participants build their psychological resilience, learn to trust each other, discover Scouting and take part in an international cultural exchange where Ukrainian children proudly represent their country.

Regular project

Training Scout-leaders and growing the network of Scout groups

The project aims to support the steady growth of the Scout Movement in Ukraine and to train Scout-leaders, one of the key conditions for this growth. As part of the project, we completed the NOSU Youth Programme and teaching materials for both children and Scout-leaders: diaries for Cub Scouts, Scouts and Rovers, and handbooks for Scout-leaders. We also held the first rounds of the basic mandatory training for Scout-leaders opening new Scout units. Thanks to this, every NOSU Scout group has access to a quality programme, the materials it needs and trained Scout-leaders. This way, more children and young people across the country can join Scouting.

“Bring Light” project

Implemented with the support of Bellaire Seafaring Youth and the World Scout Foundation. As part of the project, 5 NOSU Scout unit locations in Kyiv, Dnipro and Odesa received EcoFlow charging stations, portable lamps and extension cords. Thanks to this, during long power cuts they can work as support centres for local people. Here you can charge your phone or other devices, get warm, and find light and a safe space. This way, Scout groups not only keep working in any conditions, but also become a source of support for the people in their communities.

“I Am Among My Own” project

Implemented in partnership with ALPS Resilience, the project aimed to facilitate the reintegration and adaptation of children who returned to their communities or were internally displaced as a result of the war in Ukraine. The Scouts of Ukraine team trained more than 100 Scout-leaders from Zhytomyr, Chernihiv, Sumy and Kyiv regions to open new Scout groups in schools, arts centres and youth centres for more than 750 children and provided them with activity materials. The project also included interactive game programmes, and more than 4,500 children were able to enjoy a carefree childhood, play and get to know Scouting in a new way, which helped strengthen their psychological resilience and helping them adapt to new conditions.

“Emergency Response” project

As part of the Emergency Response project, Scouts of Ukraine provided emergency assistance in the first months of the war, coordinating efforts at the local and international levels. In the first few months of the war, the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) raised more than $700,000 to help Ukraine. Thanks to the fundraising efforts of our partners and friends in Scouting, we have provided assistance to more than 100,000 Ukrainians both in Ukraine and abroad.

“UAct” project

Implemented in cooperation with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the project was aimed at helping children and their families who were forced to leave their homes. Project activities included psychological support, educational programmes, and assistance with basic needs, enabling children to continue their education and receive support in the new environment. The children were able to join Scout groups in their new places of residence, thus having the opportunity to make new friends and socialise more easily in unfamiliar environments.

“Scouts for Ukraine” project

This project took place at the very beginning of the war in 2014 and focused on providing assistance to internally displaced persons from Donetsk and Luhansk regions, as well as the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. As part of the project, the Scouts provided displaced families with food, medicine and clothing, and supported them in finding temporary housing. The children of these families were able to join Scout groups in their new places of residence and make new friends.

Every project implemented by the Scouts of Ukraine during the war had one goal: to make life easier for those affected by the war and provide them with the necessary support.

Our work has been made possible by the generosity of our international and Ukrainian donors and the tireless work of our volunteer Scouts. Today, we continue to seek support for our initiatives so that we can keep helping those in need. Every contribution makes a difference!
